Beyond the Trip: The Potential Benefits – And Risks – Of Psychedelic Therapy
A Give & Take discussion for UWRA members
Sometime after Timothy Leary invited young people to turn on, tune in, drop out, psychedelics joined the government’s list of “dangerous drugs” and research on them virtually stopped. But in the past few years, they’ve begun to be reconsidered as treatments for addiction, depression, anxiety, PTSD and end-of-life despair. Others feel it’s a way for healthy people to enhance their lives.
In this Give and Take session, you’ll join Dr. Nathan Sackett, UW Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, for a discussion of psychedelics today. Dr. Sackett splits his time between seeing patients and doing research, which focuses on the use of psychedelics to treat substance use disorders with a particular interest in how psychedelics can facilitate behavioral change.
PLEASE NOTE: Give and Take is a live small-group discussion, not a lecture. It will not be streamed on Zoom or recorded. Please come with ideas and opinions as well as questions, and be prepared to dive in with an expert facilitator.
