Recycling, Compost, or Garbage? Sort Your Way to Sustainability
Part 1 of UWRA's two-part series on Stuff and How to Get Rid of It
If you’ve ever caught yourself hovering in indecision over your recycling bin with your heart full of good intentions and your hands full of plastic, this presentation is for you! Olivia Kirby, Recology’s Waste Zero Supervisor, will bring key rules, tips, and regional requirements for sorting items into recycling, compost, and garbage. She’ll also provide an overview of where waste goes after collection, how it is processed, how materials are recovered and reintegrated into the system, and why proper sorting is essential for environmental sustainability.
Employee-owned Recology seeks to eliminate waste by developing and discovering sustainable resource recovery practices that can be implemented globally. As of 2016, Recology employee owners serve 127 communities throughout California, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada, with service throughout King County.
