Suzzallo Library, the UW’s Cathedral of Books
Explore the past and future of Suzzallo Library with campus expert Antoinette Wills and architect Randy Everett.
This outdoor tour will cover Suzzallo’s initial two phases (1922-35), focusing on both its social and architectural legacy. We will discuss some of the major personalities involved in its creation (UW President Henry Suzzallo, UW Architect Carl Gould, UW Librarian William Henry, UW Art Benefactor Horace Henry and Washington Governor Roland Hartley) and its exterior “Collegiate Gothic” architectural facade, which is currently undergoing the major seismic upgrade and restoration that will take the building into the future.
