The Joys and Risks of Hiking: Learn from My Mistakes!

Whether you are a first-time hiker or a seasoned hiker, what five steps should you take when deciding on where, what, when, and how?

Beyond the Ten Essentials, how can you maximize the likelihood of a safe and enjoyable hike? Questions of how much to carry and how to identify doable hikes are especially important for hikers working with slightly older bodies. Avid, experienced hiker Tom Hinckley, professor emeritus in the School of Forestry, will describe each of his five steps for planning and preparing, using his own mistakes and experiences as illustrations. This program will send you into the summer ready to engage with the outdoors.
