Your Recylables: What Happens Next?

Part 2 of UWRA's two-part series: Stuff and How to Get Rid of It

As we all try to reduce the ‘stuff’ we’ve accumulated, it’s important to consider how to discard it sustainably. With fluctuating markets for items like plastics, how much impact does recycling really have on the environment? What happens to your items after they’re collected? What can you do about hard-to-recycle items, and how can you be sure the outcomes are worth your efforts?

Justin Gough (UW ’11, ’18) of Ridwell operations will talk with us about recycling in a world where everything is set up for convenience. He’ll provide an overview of the development of Ridwell as an alternative for recycling items not included in public recycling programs, will share recycling knowledge, and will explain what happens to everything from plastic film to purses once Ridwell has collected them.
