Charles Peterson’s Nirvana: Guided Exhibit Visit at Tacoma Art Museum

Join artist and UW alumnus Charles Peterson for a personal tour of his Nirvana photography exhibit at the Tacoma Art Museum (TAM). Charles will provide an introduction, explanation of the exhibit’s studio/darkroom, and tour and discussion of the images.

Gather with other UWRA members at the TAM cafe at 10:00, or visit the museum gift shop. The tour will start at 10:30 and last about 45 minutes.

After the tour, visit another TAM photography exhibit, The Abiqueños and The Artist – Tacoma Art Museum, which examines Indigenous and non-Indigenous understandings of land and landscape in Abiquiú, New Mexico. Charles Peterson’s Nirvana: On Photography and Performance highlights the dynamic energy of Peterson’s black-and-white photographs, which have become synonymous with the sounds, styles, movement, and attitude known as “grunge.” The exhibition, based on a book of the same name, expands beyond Peterson’s iconic images seen in album art, books, and magazines for decades. Read more about Charles Peterson’s work and this exhibit on this page.

UWRA’s visit to this exhibit is free as part of UW Tacoma’s Higher Education MUSE membership.

Accessibility Notes: TAM’s parking lot is ADA accessible and includes designated disability spots near the elevator to the main Museum lobby. Courtesy wheelchairs are available from the front desk. All galleries and restrooms are accessible. Full museum accessibility information is on this page of the TAM website.
