Cherry Blossom Docents
The UW’s Office of Regional & Community Relations invites UW retirees to volunteer during the busy cherry blossom season to welcome visitors and answer questions about the trees and campus.
Volunteers are typically scheduled in 2-hour shifts over 2-3 weekends during peak bloom season. As all good Huskies know, peak bloom can be unpredictable, but generally the window falls between March 12 to April 3, and the average date is March 23. The UW Office of Regional & Community Relations works closely with the UW arborists and will communicate directly with you as the season develops and we have a better sense of when peak bloom is expected.
Volunteers will be provided with training and resource materials. The date for our training and orientation is TBA, but will likely occur during the first week of March. The training will be provided by a UW arborist, who will provide a guided tour and an insider’s view of the trees. Volunteers also receive an exclusive Cherry Blossom Volunteer t-shirt so that visitors can identify you.
If you are interested in participating, please complete the form below. Submitting this form indicates your interest but does not obligate you to participate. The UW Office of Regional & Community Relations will contact you once the target date for peak bloom has been identified to confirm your availability and schedule your shift(s). You will have the opportunity to specify your availability, and to choose the number of shifts you work.
We are not currently accepting expressions of interest from volunteers for this opportunity. We anticipate that this form will reopen in September.
