Resilience – A Sansei Sense of Legacy Exhibit & Book Talk

UWRA is heading back to Tacoma for a guided tour of the traveling exhibit, Resilience—A Sansei Sense of Legacy, at the Washington State History Museum. Gwen Whiting, Lead Curator, will lead the tour.

Immediately following, Asian American creative nonfiction writer and UW Alum Tamiko Nimura will talk about her own experience/background, her graphic novel (We Hereby Refuse), and memoir.

You can then take a self-guided tour of the museum, visit a nearby restaurant for lunch, or both!

UWRA is happy to provide this tour at no charge as a benefit to our members.

Told from the point of view of Sansei (third generation) Japanese Americans, Resilience—A Sansei Sense of Legacy features eight artists whose work reflects on the effects of EO9066 as it resonated from generation to generation.

Tamiko Nimura is an Asian American writer living in Tacoma, Washington. Her training in literature and American ethnic studies (MA, PhD, University of Washington) prepared her to research, document, and tell the stories of people of color. She has written two books and created an app with a self-guided walking tour of Tacoma’s historic Japantown.
