Standing Committees
The board of directors appoints standing committees to oversee the work of the organization in specific areas. To get involved with a committee, contact us at retiremt@uw.edu.
Legislation & Benefits Committee
The legislation and benefits committee is charged with monitoring legislation, regulatory activity, and court decisions that impact UW retirees and pre-retirees, with a particular emphasis on healthcare and UW retiree benefits. The committee pursues UWRA’s legislative priorities and coordinates our advocacy efforts with UW Impact and UW’s office of external affairs.
Nominations Committee
The nominations committee considers candidates for the board of directors and officers of the board, and consults on committee assignments as needed. To make a nomination, or for more information about the committee and its work, contact our executive director, board president, or immediate past president.
Program Planning Committee
The program planning committee is responsible for overseeing UWRA’s calendar of programs and events for members. The committee plans and coordinates day trips, tours, member-to-member events, and member interest groups.
Scholarships & Fellowships Committee
The scholarships and fellowships committee is responsible for administering UWRA’s student support funds. Currently we offer annual scholarship and fellowship support to students pursuing research or careers in fields related to aging. The committee accepts applications for funding annually in the winter, and awards support each spring.
Social Justice, Equity & Inclusion Committee
The social justice, equity and inclusion committee is charged with infusing UWRA’s commitment to the multi-faceted aspects of gender, racial, and social justice throughout all arenas of the organization’s operations. The committee coordinates closely with other standing committees of the board to identify and act upon opportunities to engage in “good trouble.”
University House Advisory Council
A joint effort between UWRA and Era Living, the advisory council brings together representatives from the two organizations to share information and build the partnership. UWRA’s representatives to the council are drawn from our board of directors as well as faculty and staff in the schools of nursing, pharmacy and social work. To learn more or get involved with the committee, contact our executive director.
